black and white image of silhouetted female body

How do I go on
Now that the dust settled?
To pick up the shattered fragments
Of my body

My beating heart ripped
Apart by glass shards

My chest is as heavy as the weight of the world
And my hands are as empty as my heart
When the expression on your face
Curls up and dies in my every thought

My knees are as weak as my will
And my legs are as shaky as my voice
Your footsteps fade as they walk away
And drown out the sounds of tonight

My eyes are as shocked as my brain
And my mind is as dizzy as my stride
I try to bring you back
And remember that it’s my body

My mouth is as dry as the desert
And my arms are as open as the sky
I ask and I ask why
You couldn’t stand to be beside me

My throat is as closed off as my cry
And my fists are as locked up as my muscles
As my head shakes and my feet lose balance

My body turns back around
You are not with me you are gone
As my lungs take its last breath.
